My introduction to Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was the Legendary Edition on a console. When Special Edition was released I decided to get the PC version. As soon as I dabbled with mods my games were never the same.

RPG Grind

Game players are familiar with the RPG cycle. When you start you are so weak you die to a stiff breeze and the only loot you can find is pocket lint. By the late game you are so powerful and wealthy that gear bestowed by the gods is beneath you.
The Great Adventurer

In the dark ages of RPGs you were on your own to find your quest objectives. There is nothing wrong with that for the serious gamer but it is a huge obstacle for the casual gamer. So game developers added HUDs (Heads-Up Display), maps, and quest markers to make it easier to find your objectives. In this comic the HUD vanishes.

Having played multiple characters in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim one of the mechanics I dislike the most is the Courier. There are multiple things he can deliver but the most common is the Letter of Inheritance. Unfortunately, most of the time the only reason the NPC died was that you were near by and triggered something hostile, like bandits or dragons.

Games often have mechanics that players can exploit to practically break the game. This is a symbol from a certain wildly popular RPG for when you are detected while sneaking.
Painted Turtle

This is a comic based on the saying, “If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck then it is a duck.” But with the colorful North American painted turtle. It is based on when I told someone about the photographs I took of them, including the one I used to make this illustration.
Tree of Knowledge 2022

The fabled Tree of Knowledge from Genesis bore a fruit Adam and Eve were forbidden from eating. This comic replaces the fruit with unpopular things from our modern world, including lawyers, politicians, charging adapters, software updates, and the like.
Blocks To Slippers

If you have ever been to a house with young kids and popular plastic building blocks you know just how much they hurt when you step on them. This comic speculates on the real impetus for selling the blocks.
JWST Stephan Quintet

The Stephan Quintet was one of the first images released by NASA following the extensive calibration and testing phase of the James Webb space telescope. It showed the impressive resolving power of the enormous primary mirror. This comics has a little fun with it.
